What to Expect

A "Working Board" Culture

Hannah Center is a working board with 9-14 members. Board members are actively engaged rather than serving in a strictly advisory capacity. Members are nominated and elected from the areas served by Hannah Center.

Board members are invited to:

  • Participate in strategic planning

  • Actively support fundraising

  • Serve as ambassadors for Hannah Center in the community

  • Maintain a positive and encouraging presence in Hannah Center homes

Board Commitments

  • Time commitment: 8–10 hours per month

  • Meetings: Attendance at monthly board meetings required

  • Term length: 3 years (up to two consecutive terms)

Board Member Roles

Hannah Center welcomes board members who serve in member-at-large capacities as well as executive board members with specific leadership responsibilities (listed below). Contribute according to your unique skills and interests by joining sub-committees focused on grant writing, fundraising, marketing, and other strategic initiatives.

The following nonprofit board member roles provide executive leadership and strategy at Hannah Center:

Board President

Primary liaison between the Board and the Center Directors and ensures members fulfill their governance responsibilities.

Board Secretary

Custodian of records, ensuring accurate documentation of board business and acknowledging staff and resident milestones.

Vice President

Assists in developing policies to meet established goals and chairs the personnel committee.

Board Treasurer

Responsible for managing and reporting on the organization’s finances, creating monthly reports, and monitoring the budget.
